The field of Women and Gender Studies arose out of feminist organizing and action; it is a field where taking to the streets and scholarship co-exist and collaborate: likewise, my connection to the WGS field is both personal and scholarly. Although I have formally studied WGS for over twenty years, since I enrolled in Feminist Fiction at Hampshire College back in 2002, feminist thought was deep in my veins and in my bones since childhood. I believe feminism is vital if we are to have a future of any kind.
What is your favorite quote, artwork, book or documentary related to Women & Gender Studies? "Where the words of women are crying to be heard, we must each of us recognize our responsibility to seek those words out, to read them and share them and examine them in their pertinence in our lives." ~ Audre Lorde, from "The Transformation of Silence into Language and Action," the title of a speech she first delivered at the 1977 MLA conference and published subsequently as an essay in the lesbian literary journal Sinister Wisdom.
